To provide students with the latest trends in the different IT affiliated schools in the Visayas, the Philippine Society of Information Technology Students (PSITS) held the 14th Regional IT Congress on August 24-25, 2012 at Boracay Ecovillage Resort and Convention Center at Boracay Island, Malay, Aklan.
The two-day convention was focused on sessions, discussions and contests to enhance students’ skills in information technology.
The first day started with the Registration in the morning and the Opening Program in the afternoon. Khristine Jessa Marcelo, President, PSITS-WV gave the Welcome Address while the message was delivered by Prof. John Lorenz Belanio, President, PSITE-WV. Other activities included the Induction of PSITS-WV Officers AY 2012-2013, the Presentation of Delegates and Activities by Prof. Rommel Sario, Adviser, PSITS-WV and Bobby Fragata, Jr., Secretary, PSITS-WV respectively. Two-topics were presented “Robotics” and “Animation” both of which were proficiently discussed by Prof. Ms. Beronika Peña of Manila Tytana Colleges. Contests on Digital Arts and Inter-School Quiz Bowl were also conducted in separate venues. The facilitator also announced the mechanics of Digital Photography Contest which will be done the next day.
On the second day early in the morning the contestants submitted their entries in Digital Photography. The sessions were spent on lectures in “Job Opportunities” by Mr. Jeffrey Ryan S. Malonda, Business Development Manager, Jobs DB Philippines and “Capston Project Methodology” by Dr. Jimmy Caro, Director, UP ITTC. On the Closing Program, certificates were given to the participants and the Awarding of Winners in the different contest areas. Two SIPC I.T. Contestants pocketed the awards. Jan Mabyn E. Fajarillo, 1st runner-up in Digital Photography and June Andy C. Manua, 2nd runner-up in Digital Arts. Mike Argueza and Ricky Torre joined the Quiz Bowl Contest.
Two IT instructors also attended the convention, Mr. Mario C. Valderrama, Jr., and Mr. Selmar A. Fufunan and both were coaches in the different contests. Mr. Ramil G. Lumauag, was elected BOD of PSITE-WV. The regional convention is being conducted annually to acquaint students for an increased awareness in information technology in all IT affiliated schools.
