Five programs gear towards Level I accreditation

In line with its goal to promote and maintain quality education in the fields of technological degrees, the Southern Iloilo Polytechnic College Western Visayas College of Science and Technology-Miagao Campus submitted its five programs for the First Formal Survey visit by the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP), Inc. on November 19-21. The programs are Bachelor of Science in Automotive Technology, Bachelor of Science in Electronics Technology, Bachelor of Science in Electrical Technology, Bachelor of Science in Hotel and Restaurant Technology and Bachelor in Industrial Technology.

Accreditors

The accrediting team composed of 15 members arrived on November 18. Dr. Benedicto T. Militante, Jr. of Eastern Visayas State University served as the over-all coordinator of the team as well as the team leader of the survey group for Electrical Technology. Dr. Andres C. Pagatpatan, Jr. of Eastern Samar State University is the team leader for Industrial Technology. Prof. Ernesto E. Empig of Mindanao State University – IIT headed the survey team for Electronics Technology. The Automotive Technology and Hotel and Restaurant Technology are spearheaded by Dr. Thesius S. Sillero of Southern Leyte State University and Dr. Christine V. Cubillo of Bohol Island State University, respectively.

The accrediting team is divided into ten areas namely, Area I –Vision, Mission, Goals and Objectives headed by Dr. Corazon A. Prejoles; Area II – Faculty by Dr. Quirino C. Cabides; Area III – Curriculum and Instruction, Dr. Benedicto T. Militante, Jr.; Area IV– Support to Students, Dr. Sansen P. Tolorio; Area V – Research, Dr. Lilibeth S. Tindugan; Area VI –Extension, Dr. Vilma G. Bermoy; Area VII – Library, Prof. Rebecca B. Napiere; Area VIII – Physical Plant, Prof. Monico G. Acas; Area IX –Laboratories, Prof. Haidee Y. Gunhuran; and Area X – Administration, Prof. Glory J. Barrera.

Day 1, November 19, kicked off with an opening program followed by a meeting with host officials, core faculty and members of the local accreditation task force. In the afternoon, the survey team had a quick ocular visit to the campus, classrooms, laboratories, library, offices and other facilities. Also, data gathering and evaluation of documents in different department offices were done simultaneously.

On Day 2, November 20, the evaluation of documents was done in the morning. Meanwhile, the interview with the stakeholders (school officials, faculty and staff, students, alumni, parents and LGU officials) was conducted at the Conference room. Class observations were also done by some of the accreditors. Visitation to the extension projects of the school and the guided tour to Garin Farm, Miagao church and University of the Philippines in the Visayas – Miagao Campus were scheduled in the afternoon. staff and the Accrediting Team.
