Alleviating Lives of IP Community: Literacy and Livelihood Skills Training

One of the target clienteles of the Extension Services Department of the University is the IP Community at Sitio Igtuba, Camangahan, Guimbal, Iloilo. This community is composed of Indigenous people who are experiencing the battles of life. Because of this, a program proposal for literacy and livelihood skills training to this community was considered.

Spearheaded by the Mr. Arsenio P. Montaño and Mrs. Joann G. Muyong, together with the BEED students, a needs assessment survey was conducted last June 2017. The main goals of this program is to conduct literacy training to the children of the IP Community, provide basic training skills to certain areas for parents, adults and out- of- school youths that could help alleviate the community’s means of living and train in actual operation and manipulation of tools and equipment necessary for skills training which are all dependent to the results of the needs assessment survey.
