A card catalog is an alphabetical listing of all the collections in the library. It contains information about a book such as author, title, place of publication, publisher, edition, copyright date, pagination and call number. There are three types: author, title and subject cards.
Types of cards found in the Card Catalog
Author Card– the basic card which is also called the main card. The author’s name appears on the first line of the card.
Title Card– a card which the title is typed on the first line of the card above the author’s name:
Subject card– a subject card describes what book is all about. The subject is typed on the first line of the card in CAPITAL LETTERS.
