LGU-Miagao extends financial assistance to College students

The Local Government Unit (LGU) of Miagao through the Municipal College Education Assistance Program (MCEAP) extended financial assistance to Miagaowanon students enrolled at Southern Iloilo Polytechnic College-WVCST Miagao Campus for academic Year 2010-2011.
To qualify for the financial assistance, the applicant must (a) be a bona fide resident of the Municipality of Miagao, Iloilo as certified to by the Punong Barangay of the barangay of his/her residence and approved by the MCEAP Board; (b) submit a written application addressed to the Municipal Mayor expressing his/her intention to avail of the college education assistance; (c) be enrolled in a College or University in the Municipality of Miagao; (d) belong to an indigent family as certified to by the Municipal Social Welfare Development Officer and approved by the Committee; and (e) such other requirements recommended by the Board as it may deem necessary.
This academic year, a total 174 students availed the financial assistance as MCEAP grantees. They are enrolled in the different degree programs at Southern Iloilo Polytechnic College-WVCST Miagao Campus. During its meeting, the MCEAP Board approved the appropriation of Php 1.5 million for the payment of tuition fees, miscellaneous fees and monthly stipend of the grantees for this year.
“The LGU is of the belief that through education we will be able to uplift the lives of every Miagaowanons” said Mayor Julieta Flores in her message during the orientation meeting of the grantees and their parents. “Aside from the aim to have at least one college graduate in every ordinary family, the MCEAP was also designed to mold the present youth to be models and responsible citizens of their community.” she further emphasized.
Dr. Raul F. Muyong, Campus Administrator of SIPC and member of MCEAP Board reminded the student-grantees to study hard and finish their course. “You are all government scholars. With this very rare and unique program of our local government, you can make a great difference in your lives four years from now” said Dr. Muyong. He also reminded the parents of the grantees to do role in helping their children with their studies.
The MCEAP, one of the advocacies of the Local Government Officials of Miagao headed by Mayor Julieta N. Flores, was established in 2007 by virtue of Municipal Ordinance No. 01 . The program applies to college students who belong to indigent families, bona fide residents of Miagao and enrolled in the University/College within the jurisdiction of the Municipality (rfm).
